Tall, Tall Trees

Project Type: New Build

Status: Complete

Designer: Craft Design Build

Builder: Craft Design Build

Description: It all started with a conservatory. The owner had purchased a standalone garden greenhouse from Conservatory Craftsmen and we were tasked with designing a cabin to accompany it. The concept for this project was to build a small, extremely efficient cabin and to remove as few trees on site as possible. A tight, carefully placed footprint allowed us to avoid disturbing the trees and also aided our energy goals. The cabin uses an air source heat pump for heating and cooling and is wrapped in a continuous layer of rigid exterior insulation which not only creates a strong and continuous thermal envelope, but also allowed us to expose the unique wood framing inside. Large triple pane windows frame views of the tall pines and give a feeling of residing among the trees.
